How does Cryotherapy work to remove skin leisons?

Cryotherapy treatment is a medical procedure that destroys skin imperfections by freezing and killing the skin cells. It uses a specialized device to infuse nitrous oxide into the blemish. As a result, its underlying tissue shatters and destroys. This procedure provides a lasting benefit by destroying the cells’ reproductive DNA, preventing the eliminated imperfections from returning. The CryoPen treatment must be done accurately to ensure no healthy part of your skin is affected. This is why we apply an accurate level of precision to prevent healthy skin areas from becoming affected.

During your treatment, we keep the CryoPen close to target area/s, at this point the area will feel extremely cold, the sensation may last for 1-30 seconds based on the type and size of the imperfection to be treated. The CryoPen freezes quickly, although multiple passes may be needed. The nitrous oxide eliminates the tissue by freezing the intracellular fluid. This destroys the membrane of the cell and consequently the damaged cell is passed through the lymphatic system as waste. The CryoPen procedure destroys unwanted cells with extreme cold temperatures, permanently eliminating skin imperfections. Precise freezing to the millimetre gives the ability to control how deep the nitrous oxide penetrates and ensures healthy skin cells are avoided.

What are the benefits of Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy Skin Lesion Removal offers several benefits, making it a popular choice for individuals seeking a non-invasive and effective solution for various skin imperfections. Some of the key benefits include:

Precision:

Cryopen allows for precise targeting of specific blemishes without affecting the surrounding healthy skin. This precision is particularly valuable when treating small or delicate areas.

Non-Invasive:

Unlike traditional surgical methods, Cryopen is a non-invasive procedure that doesn’t require incisions or sutures. This can result in minimal scarring and a quicker recovery time.

Quick Treatment:

The procedure is typically quick, with sessions lasting only a few minutes. This makes Cryopen Blemish Removal a convenient option for individuals with busy schedules.

Minimal Discomfort:

While there may be a brief sensation of cold or mild discomfort during the procedure, Cryopen generally causes less pain compared to traditional surgical methods. Local anesthesia is usually not required.

Versatility:

Cryopen can be used to remove a variety of skin imperfections, including warts, skin tags, age spots, and benign moles. Its versatility makes it suitable for addressing different types of blemishes.

Little to No Downtime:

Patients can typically resume their regular activities immediately after the treatment. There is usually little to no downtime, and the recovery process is generally well-tolerated.

Safe and Controlled Application:

The Cryopen device allows practitioners to have precise control over the application of cryotherapy, reducing the risk of damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

It’s important to note that the effectiveness of treatment may vary depending on the type and size of the blemish, and multiple sessions may be required for certain conditions.

BEFORE

There are various pre-treatment safety precautions to take before Cryotherapy. We recommend refraining from retinoids, physical exfoliants, or exfoliating acids two days before treatment. Also, refrain from applying fake or gradual tan about two weeks before treatment.

Lastly, do not have any laser procedures, including hair removal or skin rejuvenation treatments a week before your session. Following these practices will keep you adequately prepared for Cryotherapy.

AFTER

Straight after the procedure the treated area will feel itchy, and there will be some erythema on and around the area. Due to this, we recommended not touching the treated area, avoiding swimming, sunbathing, the use of sauna, or steaming at least 48 hours after your session, and avoiding applying makeup or skincare products to treatment areas.

The treatment spot may appear darker. You may also experience redness and swelling. However, these symptoms are temporary and disappear after some time. Do not cover the area with a dressing or gauze unless the treated lesion is in an area which is prone to rubbing and aggravation. Do not pick the scabs as this can lead to scarring.

FAQ

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR CRYOPEN TO WORK?

It takes about 1-2 weeks, based on the treatment area and size. The affected area will have a darker colour than your original skin tone and will become extremely dry and crusty. After about ten days, the skin regenerates, and affected parts fall off, eliminating the imperfections.

DOES CRYOTHERAPY HURT?

You may feel some slight discomfort during your procedure. You will experience some stinging from the nitrous oxide as it blasts the cold onto the area treated. Redness, blistering, and swelling are general symptoms after a procedure. However, these discomforts are temporary and only last while being treated. After the treatment, you can expect the area to feel itchy and irritated, which will subside after 1-2 days.

HOW MANY CRYOTHERAPY TREATMENTS CAN I DO?

The number of treatments you undergo is based on the size and severity of the imperfection. Typically, this treatment is only needed once.

What can be treated?

Many different superficial skin lesions can be treated with the cryopen including viral warts, skin tags, milia, cherry angioma, verruca’s, dark spots, seborrheic keratosis, actinic keratosis and other benign lesions. It is not recommended to treat port wine stains, strawberry birthmarks, melasma or chloasma, leukoderma/vitiligo, solar lentignes, freckles, xanthelasma and moles. It is possible to treat several areas in a single session.

How long does treatment take?

Each Cryopen Blemish Removal session is typically relatively quick, lasting anywhere from a few minutes to around 15 minutes, depending on the number and size of the treated blemishes.
